It's one of my favorite plays for early melodrama. One of the firsts to grasp the Black Female identity in a sympathetic role for the yt gaze. Octavie is a pipe dream roll of mine.
You are singing my song. Beating my drum. Barking up my tree. Yes! I'm all about bringing more narratives from our enslaved ancestors to the world - both the primary sources from 19th C and the new ones that are being written. I work as a book coach, and this specifically is the type of work I love most. I'd love to connect. Keep on writing! Keep on banging that drum!
Thank you so much! This was a story I loved, but I could not get it sold. Putting it out there and hoping there is a market somewhere. Black people in this country have not gotten a solid foothold because of centuries long physical and psychological torture and we don’t talk enough about it.
A publisher should've bought this! I am invested in this story!
Maybe one day!
Were you influenced by the 17th century, antebellum play, Octoroon ??
