Whew! I binged TikTok in its last days so that was mostly what I watched, but it’s time to get into different kinds of media and slowing down. That was what I told myself, but it seems that all of the apps are in a mad dash to add new features. BlueSky has added video and so has Substack, but it remains to be seen what kind of content will thrive. Look out for my fledgling attempts.
I’m listening to my podcasts again and realizing I’ve outgrown some and rediscovering others. One of my old school faves that is still kicking is STUFF YOU SHOULD KNOW
This week’s episode focused on “The Barkley Marathons” these ultra marathons that are extremely prestigious, but also extremely clandestine. The guys who run the podcast are just the kind of laid back that you need to explain the universe, but not scare you. 10/10
I’m still reading Celestine Martin’s DEJA BREW, but I’m also reading more articles. Here is where I plug your local public library. I love a good magazine, but I’m not so into paying for subscriptions. I used Libby to read the NEW YORK magazine profile piece on Neil Gaiman, There Is No Safe Word. and was horrified. I had to stop about halfway through. It was graphic and it was sad. I will say that there is a kind of man in the literary world who believes that feminism is as simple as believing that women are people, but that doesn’t mean that they understand consent. What they believe is that they are a good guy and that all women are as enlightened and evolved as he is no matter the age or financial circumstance. He has not reconciled his relationship with privilege, in age, income or social status. And it continues to be their downfall.
I haven’t been watching too much on television, but since we cut the cable cord over a decade ago, we aren’t super TV watchers in general. However, I did get a chance to cue up the original The Wizard of OZ with Judy Garland on Disney+ with my little. We recently watched WICKED with a few friends and they loved it. She claimed that I was watching it more than she was, but guess who cued up the original songs on her Alexa not a day later?
So what are you reading, watching and listening to. Really, I need to know now that I’m about to have a TikTok sized hole in my media consumption.
