A Poem for Pastor

On Black Republicans and my church

I’m a terrible poet, but the mood struck.

The alter had a rope

around it today

Pastor was a target

The alter had a rope

around it

The saints were kept away

They put his face on a stick

They mean to see him lynched

The alter had a rope

around it

They mean to make him

a burnt offering

for a ticket in the room

Maybe, they too, can ask Godfather for a pizza slice and a hard death

I go to New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and the Pastor is an outspoken leader in the new social justice movement. He’s called for a fast from Target and for his trouble the Black Republicans thought it was appropriate to parade his face at a farce of a Black History Month event held at the White House. If they knew the history that Trump is trying to erase they would know the possible violent repercussions of their actions. This Sunday there was a rope around the altar during the sermon. Now, this sometimes happens, but it did make me think.
